What has happened since June 2008? Well, you probably know about the world wide economic crisis. It didn't pass my employer by, but I was one of the lucky ones that got to stay, so I am doing the same thing I have been doing for 5 years now.
What else? We have two little boys that are not so little anymore, Lukas and Ruben can read and "write". We still need to work on the spelling, for a while Ruben insisted on Ruban, because that is "what it sounds like". Ah well, at 4 years old, what can you expect? We just got Ruben signed up for Kindergarten this fall, he is going to be bored out of his mind, but skipping would put him in the same grade as Lukas, not a good thing.
We put up a new swingset for the kids last fall. We got most of it assembled while my parents visited, I did the rest after they went home. We also went with my parents on an extended weekend in the Black Hills. It was a really fun trip, and we are glad that we did it.
We spent the holidays on building a loft bed for Lukas from a kit we got off Freecycle. We had to make quite a few modifications and paint it, but the end result was nice.
As you can see, we also painted the room...
Now, we have started working on the basement. The first step is to build a closet for the laundry to fall into, when we throw it down the laundry chute. That same closet will also contain the new server room. I have built most of the closet now, and put up dry-wall to close the outside wall and hide the new wiring. Not a bad job, if I may say so:
We have started clearing out the basement to get ready to finish it. We figure that we can get some of my colleagues over some time in April and have a framing/grilling/beer-drinking weekend and get all of the framing done. Yes, that is the right sequence too...
Since I will be doing most of the wiring myself, I figure it will probably take a couple of months, so dry-walling is scheduled for July or August. With a bit of luck, we can have a finished basement, painted and carpeted, before the end of the year.
Anything else going on?
Not really, we are just enjoying life, glad that I still have a job, and we can stay here in Ames. |
